1930's

Victory Van LinesIn the 1930’s, a Swiss immigrant by the name of Christian Beetcham opened an antique furniture shop in New York City and named it "Victory Furniture and Antiques". Unable to afford a delivery van, Christian utilized a local drayage company to make furniture deliveries.  One of the firm’s biggest problems was that furniture damage incurred during delivery eroded much of the profit and generated customer dissatisfaction. To remedy this, Christian began making the deliveries personally and eventually acquired the drayage truck by bartering furniture inventory. Soon Christian realized that delivering antiques was more enjoyable than selling them and he sold the business for another truck and changed the name of the company to "Victory Van Lines".

1950 - 1974

In 1958, Christian became partners with a young Air Force Captain with a transportation background named Robert O’Donnell and the firm was incorporated and became the first east coast agent of Global Van Lines. In the 1960s and 1970s Victory specialized in antique moving and storage and the name became synonymous with quality, reliability and consistency.

Victory WorldwideIn 1975, Christian and Bob needed a driver for the busy summer season and hired a college student named Jim Simpson. Having worked on moving vans at Greyhound Van Lines since he was thirteen, Jim became a valuable addition to the company. With knowledge of the moving and storage business and a tireless enthusiasm, Jim was promoted to a position within the office.

Soon thereafter, Jim returned to his business studies at St. John’s University. Chris and Bob, however, encouraged Jim to continue at Victory and to apply his business acumen to the company. Victory Van Lines was soon transformed from a local moving company to a worldwide transportation company.
